How to Use a Jig Fishing Lure

1 Accept the fact that something fluttering up and down stimulates the "strike" option in a game fish's brain more than something fluttering through the water parallel with the bottom. The fish thinks both types of erratic movement is that of wounded or crippled bait, but something fluttering up and down is more crippled and the easiest meal.

Use a long pole for jigging. If you are in deep water jigging straight up and down, the further you get the lure away from the boat's bottom silhouette, the less wary the fish are. If you are on a stationary pier, it doesn't matter. Make the up and down movement as erratic as possible by using the lightest possible weight, if any, to keep the jig going up and down.

Select a jig in the fishing section of your favorite store. If you are fishing on the Gulf Coast, you won't be able to jig straight up and down because the bays and surf are shallow. You want a jig that is weighted so that you can cast it a considerable distance. The jigging then becomes a series of "bounces" off the bottom or before the jig hits the bottom. Jigging off the bottom is a lot less work and will catch more flounders. A jig doesn't need to "flutter" as much as a jerk or swimbait, but it doesn't hurt.

Color is more important on a jig than many other types of lures because when it hits bottom the "thud" often attracts a fish. The fish must be able to differentiate the momentarily still lure from its environment. Pick very light colors and stay away from tan or beige.

There are a lot of accessories available for your boat and personal use that may not be available at marine dealerships and tackle stores. These accessories can improve your fishing experience or personal convenience while on the water. Let's start with accessories for the boat.
Hydraulic jack plates are primarily for adjusting your motor height to add speed and performance, but that's not the best feature. Some lakes are known for stumps and hydrilla; this is where a jack plate shines. You can raise your motor straight up and get your prop out of harm's way.
To operate the jack plate or your tilt and trim, there is a new product that goes on your steering column. The switches are called ProTrim and are made by Teleflex. They are more convenient than buttons because you don't have to let go of the wheel to tilt and trim your motor or raise and lower the jack plate.
While we are still in the boat driver's area, another useful item is the Hot Foot and Hot Foot slide plate. The Hot Foot is a spring-loaded pedal that hooks up to the motor accelerator cable. You control the boat speed with your foot as you do in your car. The slide plate mounts under the Hot Foot and allows you to adjust the pedal for you or your partners leg length back and forth by five inches.
The Ultra Mount 11 & III, Johnny Ray Mounts and Ram Mounting Systems all make a removable mount for your electronics, graphs, lights and radios. You can remove your electronics easily after your fishing trip and store them away to protect them from damage while trailering or from possible theft.
Saf-T-Brite light is a floodlight that mounts on your forward navigational lights post and wires into its power. The flood gives you a good view of the area in front of your boat as you launch and pull up to shore or go to that honey hole before daylight or come in after dark.
A compass is one thing that you should never be without in your boat. It doesn't have to be an expensive one, because even a dime store compass seems to do okay. If you don't know, when you think you are steering straight in the fog without a focal point you typically will keep bearing left until you run into shore or make a complete circle. This is due to the prop thrust. You can totally lose your sense of direction without landmarks or the sun. A radio with weather channels is another item that you should consider, not only for the entertainment and weather information, but also for the reports from those big bass tournaments sponsored or covered by the radio stations.
Keel Shield or Hamby's Protectors both protect the bow of your boat when you pull up on shore, and help eliminate any damage to the gel-coat in the keel area.
Some other items include, prop locks, boat alarm systems, Bimini Tops, trolling motor handles (like Pro-Kon-Troll, Big Foot and Flex Handle). The Solargizer and the Connector are excellent for extending the life of your batteries.
Now that we covered items to enhance the boat, lets look at some personal products to make your days fishing easier. Of course the first things you need are a good pair of polarized sunglasses, a hat to help shade your face and neck and a good sunscreen to protect your skin with at least an SPF of 30 is best. I like Pre-Sun clear gel that has a SPF of 30. It dries clear quick and isn't oily.
For running down the lake, I use Scott Protector goggles that fit over my glasses and protect my eyes from the wind, bugs and cold in the winter.
Speaking of winter, there is a Neoprene and Neo-Fleece facemask that helps keep the cold wind from causing frostbite on your face while running down the lake.
I use a soft leather-fishing glove that has rubber spots on the fingers and palm to help grip the fish. The gloves are designed for fishing and fit your hand tight. The glove protects you from sunburn, the fish's fins and teeth as well as the hooks from the lures, although around hooks, nothing is totally safe. Speaking of hooks, another item you should always have in the boat is a first aid kit and a pair of side cutters (to cut off hook barbs).
You also need to keep a rain suit or some kind of rain gear in the boat for those sudden storms. I also keep an extra tee shirt and socks in a Zip-Lock bag for a quick change if needed. I have a head net for those days when the bugs, mosquitoes and biting flies get to be a problem.
A life jacket is required, but the new Type III So-spender and Waste Model inflatable PFD'S, make wearing a life jacket in the heat of summer or on windy days, not bad. It also makes it easy to just wear them all the time, because it's not too bulky or cumbersome.

When a fish feels the hook, it struggles to get free. This might involve jumping, making a long run, swimming back against the line or swimming around obstacles. Each species of fish fights differently.

Fish hooked in shallow water are more likely to jump and behave more frantically than those hooked in deep water. Deep-water fish often seek the bottom.

It's possible to land many small fish just by reeling them in. They'll fight, but they aren't as strong as the line and the rod. Use lighter tackle and you can get some fight out of the smallest fish in the lake.

If you're catch and release fishing, don't fight too long or the fish will die from exhaustion before or after you release it.

Fighting Bigger Fish

Setting the Drag

If a fish makes a run for it, don't panic. And don't try to reel in while the fish is swimming away from your line. Relax and let the drag and rod do the work. After you've set the hook, set your drag. If you're using 12-pound test, you should use about 4 pounds of drag. Just keep the rod at about a 45-degree angle to the water aim it straight at the fish.

When the fish slows down and stops taking more line, it's time to go to work. The best technique for the catch is to gently pull the rod up and then reel down as you lower it, using a pumping motion. Do it in small, smooth strokes rather than large abrupt sweeps because it will help keep both the line tight and the fish much calmer.

If the fish runs again, let it go and you will probably notice that this run is shorter and slower. But don't let the fish rest. If you can't hear your drag working, you should be reeling.

Don't be anxious. Even if you get the fish close to the boat, that doesn't mean it's done fighting. If it turns and runs, let it go. Your line is pretty short at this point, and pump-and-reel action could break it.

Fish aren't biting. The water is cold and doesn't heat up because the sun is low and the rays bounce off the water. But don't go home yet, because winter is over and fish are hungry and spawning. Best to wait until a week or so after thaw, as spring turnover takes time for the water temperature to even out to 39.2 degrees.

Spring/Late Morning-Early Afternoon
Fish are biting off and on. The water begins to warm up because rays begin to penetrate the water. Remember to fish the downwind shoreline, as the winds will push the warmer surface water along with surface food into that area.

Spring/Afternoon-Early Evening
Fish are eating a lot because their metabolism and digestion are cranked. Water is warm because the sun is directly overhead.

Summer/Early Morning-Late Afternoon
Fishing is excellent from before sunup to just before mid-morning. At this time of year there is abundant food and cover for fish, so finding hungry fish can be a challenge.

Summer/Late Morning-Early Afternoon
Fishing is poor for most of the day. Fish move to deep water to cool off.

Summer/Afternoon-Early Evening
Fishing is excellent from early sundown until dark as the waters cool and fish rise up from the depths.

Fish aren't biting much from sunup to early morning. The water is cool because the sun is too low to penetrate the water.

Fish are biting off and on in warmer, shallow water. The water is generally cool due to the season.

Fall/Afternoon-Early Evening
Fishing is excellent. Sun is directly overhead for several hours and the water gets more comfortable near the surface. This makes for seasonally good fishing because fish are putting on weight for the winter. Look for bait schools where bigger fish are more likely to be.

Seasonal Lake Turnover

Turnover refers to the exchange of surface and bottom water in a lake or pond. This annual recycling program happens twice a year. There's spring turnover and fall turnover and summer stagnation in between. From spring to fall, warmer water goes from the top of the lake to the bottom and cooler water moves from the bottom to the top.

An understanding of turnover, combined with knowledge of what kind of water a particular fish likes, can make you a real fishing genius. As always, good luck.

Once the ice is out, the water on the surface of a lake starts to warm. When it reaches 39 degrees it begins to sink and is replaced by cooler water from below. This exchange continues until the water temperature is constant in the entire lake. Early in this process, fish will stay in the shallow areas of the lake where the water warms up faster, and where the first plant growth of the spring occurs.

During the summer, the sun heats water near the surface of lakes, but it doesn't sink. Eventually a condition known as "stratification" develops, putting a well-defined warm layer of water over a cool one.

Fish like the cooler water, but they also need the higher oxygen levels found in warmer water. So they'll migrate to an area right between the two levels of water called the thermo cline. The thermo cline can occur between 2 and 10 feet in depth, depending on the size of the lake.

It's best to find a point or some other form of structure that extends out from the shoreline and slopes gradually down into the thermo cline. This should be a place where fish can find warmer water, but have quick access to deeper, cooler and safer water.

With the arrival of fall and cooler air temperatures, water at the surface of lakes cools, becoming almost as heavy as the cooler bottom water. Strong autumn winds move surface water around, which promotes mixing with deeper water. This is fall turnover.

As mixing continues, lake water becomes more uniform in temperature and oxygen level, allowing fish to move around freely. Fish can be difficult to find as long as these conditions prevail, usually continues until the weather turns cold, chilling the lake's surface.

Water Temperature and Turnover
Each fish has a different range of water temperature in which it can survive. Although fish cannot always find the exact temperature they prefer, they are usually found in water close to that temperature.

By combining a knowledge of preferred water temperature and lake turnover, you can kind-of-sort-of predict which fish will be in a particular part of a lake at a particular time of the year.

Fish that like warmer water will be surface feeders in the summer and bottom feeders in the fall. And fish that like cooler water will feed deep in the spring and on the surface in the fall. But don't hold us to this. Fish are always tough to catch.

Temperatures

Too many hot days in the summer can make fish in shallow lakes, ponds and rivers sluggish. The same thing happens in the winter when water temperatures are lower. Why? All fish are cold-blooded. Meaning they can't keep their body temperature at a constant level like humans and other warm-blooded animals. So the temperature of their surroundings influences the fish's body temperature and bodily functions. Really high and really low water temperatures reduce the amount of oxygen in the water, making fish less active and picky about when and what they.

So here's the first rule of when to fish. Fishing will be slower when it's too hot or too cold.

Understanding this bit of biology will help you decide what kinds of lures and baits to use, and how fast or slow to work them. Work your tackle slower in colder water and faster in warm water.

Fish prefer early morning and evening sun to the bright sun of midday. Morning sun warms the shallows, creating more comfortable water temperatures for fish to feed. Late morning is best when the sun has had more of a chance to warm the shallows. This is particularly true during early spring in shallows with dark or mud bottoms because dark areas absorb heat more rapidly than light sandy bottoms.

Warm water temperatures make bait fish more active and available to game fish on cool early-spring days. On hot sunny days, fish move to cooler, deeper waters to stay comfortable. High-heat conditions make shallow and top water lures and bait best only in the early morning and late afternoon when cooler temperatures and lower light levels allow fish to cruise the shallows for meals.

In midday, hot water surface temperature, decreased surface oxygen and occasional increasing winds cause fish to move deeper. In these conditions, deep fishing baits, rigs and lures are best.

Already, you can see how a combination of time of day, light and weather can affect your fishing.

Variable Weather Conditions

Wind

Wind can play a large role in fishing success. Wind pushes water and surface food to the far shore, with bait fish behind it, and with game fish behind the bait fish. So if you're fishing from shore on a windy day, fish where you have to cast into the wind. That way your lure moves with the wind, just like the other food in the lake at the same time. If you're fishing from a boat, cast with the wind on a sheltered shore.

Storms

Storms and changing weather patterns affect fishing success since fish are keenly attuned to changes in barometric conditions. With many fish, feeding increases during the hours immediately before a cold front, but slows during and after a storm or front hits.

Fishing after a cold front is poor and continues to be poor for a day or two. Warm fronts cause surface water temperatures to increase, putting fish into a feeding mode. This can be particularly true in the winter, when a warming trend can cause otherwise sluggish fish to start feeding actively. Most of this feeding activity is on or near the warm surface.

Cloudy days improve fishing since the clouds prevent light penetration. Overcast skies cause fish to cruise for food more than they would during bright days when they tend to hide and stay close to structure. On overcast, cloudy days, fish are less likely to be at specific structure spots or areas and more likely to be scattered throughout a waterway.

A light rain is another good time to fish, especially a warm spring or summer rain. Rain can help you hide from the fish since the rain breaks up the view a fish has through the water surface. This is true for shore, wade or boat fishing. Rain also washes insects and bait into the water, creating a feeding binge for fish.

Hard rain conditions are a poor time to fish. A hard rain muddies the water, makes it difficult for fish to find bait or lures and causes heavy runoff, which can clog their gills. The increased water flow in rivers from any rain increases current flow and makes it difficult for fish to maintain a comfortable position in the river. High water levels can also create rapids, waves and unsafe fishing conditions.

When there's lightning or the possibility of lightning, get out of the water immediately, whether you're in a boat, wading or on shore. Safety first. Plus, there's no way you're going to catch fish in a violent storm.

Salt Water and Tides
Tides raise and lower the water level approximately two times per day and affect where fish are located and how they feed. The timing of a high or low tide changes daily and is also different for each coastal area.

A shallow area that might hold fish and may be a good spot to fish during a high tide, might be a bare mud bank during low tide conditions. And a slough (a slight depression in the bottom) that might be perfect for bottom feeding fish during a low tide, might be too deep and difficult to fish on a high tide.

Running tides (rising or falling) are best since they cause bait to move and promote active feeding among coastal fish. Changing tides, time of day and location are also important when you're fishing in brackish water—coastal water that's a mix of salt water and fresh water and contains saltwater and freshwater fish. Brackish water is found in most tidal creeks and rivers along coasts and is highly affected by tidal movements.

Tanjung Buai merupakan sebuah pekampungan nelayan yang terletak di daerah Kota Tinggi Johor. Jika menaiki bot dari Kong Kong Pasir Gudang ia hanya mengambil masa 15 min sahaja untuk ke Tanjung Buai. Dan hari ini saya akan bercerita pada anda semua tentang trip saya di kawasan perairan Tanjung Buai. Trip rengkas yang disertai oleh saya, zakaria dan baharin ( rakan sekerja ) bermula apabila seorang rakan kami menyatakan yang beliau telah terjumpa sebuah lubuk yang terletak di perairan tanjung buai. Melalui cerita beliau lubuk ini terletak berhanpiran dengan jambatan baru yang menghubungkan pasir gudang ke desaru (jambatan ni pun lubuk jugak tapi dilarang memancing di kawasan ini kerana jambatan masih dalam peroses pebikinan ) dan berhampiran dengan dua rumah rakit pembela ikan.

menurut beliau lagi lubuk ini tidak terdapat karang dibawahnya, ia hanya tempat laluan ikan. Tetapi bukan laluan ikan gelama atau duri, ianya laluan ikan idaman pemancing dan ikan yang selalu mengunakan laluan ini adalah unga tanda, ikan merah, senangin, ebek, tebal pipi dan tangkapan terbaru di lubuk ini seekor temerih seberat 10 kg ( tapi malang tiada gambar utk ikan ini kerana tiada sebarang kamera di bawa semasa ikan ini di tawan ) dan semua ikan yang lalu di kawasan ini bersekala 1.5 kg ke atas. Dan nasihat saya pada rakan semua tambat la joran anda jika memancing di kawasan ini, kerana saya sendiri pernah nyaris kehilangan joran kesayangan saya apabila direntap ganas oleh ikan dan terjatuh ke dalam air. Mujur la joran saya di tambat dengan seutas tali, walau bagaimana pun ikan berjaya memutuskan tali perambut yang berkekuatan 60 paun setelah 10 min bertarung.Umpan yang kami gunakan utk trip ini adalah udang hidup dan perumpun. Setelah semua persiapan dan umpan kami dapatkan kami bertolak dengan menyewa sebuai bot berkuasa 15 kuda pada jam 8 mlm dari penyewa bot yang bernama Pak Akop di Kong Kong Pasir Gudang.

Dengan bot berkaasa 15 kuda ini kami hanya mengambil masa 10 min utk kelubuk ini. Setelah sauh dilabuhkan joran yang berumpankan udang hidip pun dilabuhkan. Saya dan zakaria menilih melabuhkan umpan agak jauh sedikit dari rumah rakit manakala baharin melabuhkan umpan berhampiran dengan rakit. Setelah 10 min melabuhkan umpan saya mendapat rentapan pertama setelah bertarung beberapa min seekor ikan merah bersekala 1.3 kg berjaya didaratkan. selang beberapa min zakaria pula menerima rentapan yang hebat, ikan berjaya nenarik tali keluar dari gelung kekili shimano navi milik beliau. tetapi malang sekali perambut hantu berkekuatan 30 paun berjaya diputuskan oleh ikan.

Setelah itu tiada lagi regutan kasar dari ikan hanya baharin saja yang berjaya menaikan seekor gemang bersekala 1.5 kg. Setelah jam menunjukan pukul 2 pagi zakaria mula mengeluh mengajak berpindah kerana tiada lagi renggutan dari ikan dan keadaan air sekarang adalah air mati sebelum bertukar ke pasang. Sebaik kami swemua bersetuju utk berpindah joran milik saya bergegar hebat menyebabkan loncing yang saya pasang di hujung joran berdering kuat memecah kesunyian pagi. Tampa berlengah lagi satu sembatan padu saya lakukan supaya mata kail oner 2/0 tertancap kemas pada mulut ikan. Pada mulanya ikan kurang melawan tetapi apabila ikan berada di bawah bot ia mula memberi pertarungan hebat yang mana tali sulam berjaya ditarik keluar beberapa miter dari gegelung kekili shimano sena 4000 yang digandingkan dengan joran lemex platinum milik saya. Setelah hampir 5 min bertarung seakor unga tanda seberat 2.2 kg terkapar-kapar di tepi bot. Setelah ikan berjaya didaratkan saya bertanya pada zakaria samaada mahu lagi berpindah atau tidak. Dengan geram beliau berkata yang beliau akan tewaskan saya sebentar lagi hehehehe ( marah betul beliau dengan sindiran saya tadi ). Setelah setengah jam nenungu apabila air mula pasang zakaria menerima satu geturan kecil dan beliau membiarkan sahaja joranya dan berkata yang ikan baru cium2 umpanya, beliau pun mencapai roti bekalan kami utk menalas perut yang lapar, belum sempat beliau menyuapkan roti ke mulutnya tiba2 jojanya bergegar hebat dan dengan tidak semena-mena roti yang beliau pegang tadi tercampak ke air kerana beliau terpaksa menyembat joranya sebelium beliau berputih mata. Dan ahirnya seekor merah berjaya didaratkan bersekala 1.5 kg. Baharin yang dari tadi merungut tak dapat ikan bertukar tempat dengan saya dan setelah beberapa min beliau berjaya mendaratkan seekor unga tanda bersekala 800 g. Dan apabila matahari mula menyinar kami pun bercadang utk pulang kerana sudah kehabisan umpan. baharin, zakaria dan saya pun mula menguling pancing utk berkemas pulang dengan tidak semena-mena joran abu garsia yang dipadankan denfan shimano navi pg milik saya bergegar kuat hinga menyebabkan ia tercanpak ke air mujur la ianya ditambat tengan tali kalau tidak mau putih bijik mata saya apabila joran kesayangan menjadi tukun. Tali penambat joran pun ditarik bagi mendapatkan joran semula, apabila joran muncul di permikaan air saya dapat lihat gegelung tali terbuka yang nana tali keluar dengan laju apabila ianya berjaya ditutup, ikan telah berjaya melarikan tali kebawah rakit ban berjaya memutuskan perambut berkekuatan 60paun. Oleh kerana umpan telah kehabisan kami semua pun sepalat utk pulang.

p/s lubuk ini sangat efektif waktu air kecil dan kebanyakan ikan2 bersais kasar menmakan umpan waktu air mati.

It all began with a hungry Finnish guy and a carving knife. It was the 1930s when a simple fisherman made an observation of simple genius: Big fish eat little fish, especially little fish that are wounded. So begins the greatest fishing story ever told. As Lauri Rapala fished the waters of Finland’s Lake Paijanne, he quietly rowed and watched. And what he saw was how hungry predator fish would dart into a school of minnows and attack the one that swam with a slightly off-center wobble. Over and over again.

Lauri realized that if he could craft a lure that mimicked the movements of a wounded minnow, he could catch more fish, earn more money, and not spend time constantly baiting lines. So Lauri set to work. He whittled. Carved. And shaved. Eventually a lure began to take shape. Using a shoemaker’s knife and some sandpaper, he created his first successful lure from cork in 1936. Tinfoil from chocolate bars formed the lure’s outer surface. Melted photographic negatives the protective coating. But most importantly, it perfectly imitated the action of a wounded minnow. Legend has it that Lauri sometimes caught 600 pounds of fish a day with that new lure. And as word of his abundant catches spread, the lure’s reputation grew. The rest, as they say, is history. That first lure was the forefather to the lure that has helped more fishermen experience the thrill of more big fish than any other: the legendary Original Floating™ Rapala.

Grouper
The Serranidae is large and important family of fish, consisting of more than 375 species. These are mostly temperate and tropical marine fish, ranging size from less than 30 cm (12 in) to about 3.7 m (12 ft), and are found near rocks, reef, wrecks, and piers in coastal waters. The larger members of the family are robust, sharp-toothed, basslike fish, which live near the bottom and feed on fish, crustaceans, and shell fish. They tend to be solitary rather than schooling, except at spawning time, and the individuals of many species change sex as they grow: they mature and breed as females, and become males when grow older and larger.
FISHING NOTES
Techniques
Bottom fishing and trolling, using natural or artificial baits, are effective methods for these species. Big species easily found offshore of Terengganu near the oil rigs. Black seabass are also taken from jetties, docks, breakwaters, and piers on saltwater spinning gear and light, general-purpose tackle.
Tackle
For bottom fishing, use a 13.6 to 22.7 kg (30 to 50 lb) class boat rod with a 4/0 to 6/0 multiplier reel and 13.6 to 22.7 kg (30 to 50 lb) mono line; terminal tackle should be a running leger with an 85 to 227 b (3 to 8 oz) pyramid- or bomb-shaped sinker and 2/0 to 6/0 hook. For trolling, try a 36.3 kg (80 lb) class road with a 9/0 multiplier reel, 36.3 kg (80 lb) mono line, a heavy wire leader and 10/0 hook. But trolling on this type of species is not very popular in Malaysia.
Baits
Fish, squid, worms, shrimps, clams, and crab are good baits for bottom fishing. But here mostly of the time they use fillet fish. You can also use natural baits for trolling, as can plugs, spinners, spoons, and feathers especially near rocky reef.
Note: Red Grouper & Jewfish
The red grouper inhabits rocky reefs as depth of 24 to 120 m (80 to 400 ft), but small individuals are sometimes found near the shore in shallow water. This grouper is recognizable by its blotched, reddish coloration, its squared-off tail, and the even top edge of its dorsal fin; the lining of its mouth is orange or deep red. It can attain a weight of 23 kg (50 lb) or more, and fights hard when hooked on light tackle.

This huge grouper (Jewfish) is known to reach a length of 2.4 m (8 ft) and a weight of 310 kg (680 lb), and may grow to 454 kg (1,000 lb) or more. Despite its size, it lives in shallow water - usually not deeper than 30 m (100 ft) - and is found around rocky ledges, wrecks, and pilings. It is not a hard fighter, but its size and weight, and its habit make it difficult to land. The Queensland grouper and Indo-Pacific species, is even even larger and can grow to 3.7 m (12 ft) and over 500 kg (1,100 lb).

Today I will talk about fishing location which is located in Pasir Gudang Johor. In Pasir Gudang there were many spot point for fishing, example at the jetty Tanjung Langsat's village, this jetty build by stone, it used by local fisherman to unloading their catch. But because most of the local fishermen here have their own jetty, being this jetty under-utilised. so many angle comes bringing their family to release tension while fishing. The view here is very beautiful with line of fishing stakes, village view and here also you can see cargo ship parking at port of Tanjung Langsat nearby this jetty. this vilage also have many seafood restaurants that one can visit after being tired fishing. If you want to try fishing on stakes, you can ask the local people. Rates imposed is RM15 a person .

Hallo to all readers. Today I will talk about my fishing trip in Belungkur Kota Tinggi Johor. This 12 hrs trip are made at 01/04/2008, which joined by I (yaziz), bahrin and pak yah (zakaria). We start this trip with rent a boat in kongkong this boat are joint with YAMAHA ENDURO 15 horsepower engine from a tenant boat. At this time we only use life prawn and perumpun as the bait. Our first stop is under the new bridge that connect Pasir Gudang to Desaru. There were many Grouper staying at this area. We successfully fished 4 grouper here by using life prawn as bait. All grouper here scale at 1.5 to 2.5 kg. Our Second stop is in Belungkur water territorial, where a lot of coral cluster that become a play ground for fish . First coral area that we visit named are Stony Coral. Here we land variety of fish as grouper, ketarap, red-sea-perch and tetanda (unga) having size 1 to 4.5 kg.And our last stop is in a fishing stakes (kelong) that have a big togok before it and this stakes is belonging to Mr Kain. Here we also successfully ground several grouper, ketarap and tetanda (unga) having size at 1 to 2 kg. Our Trip ended at the 6:30 PM and overall catch hit 25 kg. .

Tenggiri or Narrow is a fish that you can catch witch many technique of fishing. One of the technique is trolling. Trolling is the way where the bait attract slowly by using boat, no matter what is the bite that you choose to use either plug (wobbler, minnow, shallow-diver and deep-diver) or fresh bait.

Malaysia’s rivers and natural and man make lakes are home to over 300 species of freshwater fish of which around 40 species can be caught on rod and line.
The prime freshwater sport fish include the ferocious Giant Snakehead, the fast running Malaysian Jungle Perch, the Giant Featherback, the massive fresh water Catfish and the elusive but powerful Malaysian Mahseer.
The Giant Snakehead or "Toman” is a powerful fighter and can attain a weight of more than 20kg. However, common catches average around the 5 to 10kg mark. The Giant Featherback or “Belida” also attains a size of over 20kg while the Catfish or “Tapah” can reach more than 50kg. The Malaysian Mahseer, a sub species of the Indian Mahseer, is probably one of the most powerful of the freshwater fish. Although not as big as its Indian cousin, it nevertheless provides excellent sport. Arowana or “Kelisa” as known locally is a totally protected species. Now only caught in the more remote areas, this fish is a superb fighter, but must be released if caught. Freshwater fishing can be relatively easy with may pay ponds in close proximity to all west coast Peninsula Malaysia towns. Also there are few resort fisheries which offer a wide range of accommodation, a variety of activities and well-shocked fishing ponds. For the more hardy angler, jungle excursions which may involve trekking and camping can be arranged. A few excellent fishing centres are also be found on the fringes of Malaysia’s massive man made lakes.

The 'safety pin' or overhead blade style spinnerbait is probably the most popular spinnerbait design for bass anglers. Like the in-line spinner, the heart of its' design is a wire that is bent roughly 90 degrees and imbedded in lead shaped like a bullet, along with the single hook behind it.

Blade Options: The rearmost blades is attached by a swivel to a bent enclosed wire circle in the overhead wire's tip. An added blade (ie. tandem spinnerbait)is attached in-line on the wire arm by a clevis ahead of the rear blade the same as for an in-line spinner. The characteristics of blades used that are stated above for in-line spinners, also apply to (overhead arm) spinnerbaits. There is no rule for when to use a particular design, color or size blade,or blade combination, but generally the rounder Colorado blade is used for slower colder water retrieves, dropping the bait in a free fall during retrieve pauses or slow rolling the bait along the bottm. (Slow rolling a spinnerbait is similar to the presentation of a skirted jig that is in contact with the bottom in shallow or deep water.) The Colorado blade helicopters above the weight/hook as the bait drops, thus simulating a dying prey target. Most times the strike occurs as the horizontal retrieve is continued. For more on blade hydrodynamics, see below.

Skirt Options: Like in-line spinners, skirt material options are many and depend on the body/target/action profile desired. Skirts are tied on or attached by a rubber collar to the lead molded on the hook. Typical for bass, silicone skirts have recently dominated the field over(living) rubber skirts because of the molded-in patterns, metal flakes and incandescent colors available. The pulsating, fluttering action caused by blade spin is the same as for in-lines, but the body target is rounder and has more action with the similar retrieve or a pause in retrieve. The skirt also slows the bait down with added resistance depending on how many strands are used, but again, minimum or maximum speed capability is dependent on blade size and shape. The length of the skirt is typically 1/4" past the curve of the hook, but some anglers like longer or shorter skirts depending on profile size and skirt action.

If a bait with a certain style and size blade is retrieve too fast, the bait has a tendency to roll over, ruining the horizontal swim. Ideally, the bait should run true, meaning the overhead arm and blade are directly over the skirt/hook on the horizontal swim.

Trailer Considerations:

Spinnerbait dressings or trailers trailers are even more varied than for in-line spinners and personal preference dominates choice. Shaped pork rind and soft plastic trailers are the norm, with soft plastic being the majority material of trailers used and come in many colors. As with in-line spinners, the trailer affects lure profile, action and lift depending on shape and size. For example, a straight double tail design has the least lift or drag and is more of a skirt-like extension; whereas a large curl tail grub produces the most rear action, lift and the largest profile within the pulsating skirt. Pork or soft plastic chunk baits offer the most lift and allow a planing of the bait on the horizontal retrieve.

Wire Arm length Consideration:

There are spinnerbaits that have a short overhead arm and are used for more vertically dropping presentations down steep structure (banks or points). The have a little less weed resistance than the larger overhead arm and blade, but fall better and are closer to the skirted jig versus the spinnerbait design in useage. Typically a Colorado blade is used to slow the fall and create the maximum fluttering flash on the way down.

Long arm baits are used when a bait has multiple blades or when more weed resistance it needed during a horizontal swim. Single large blades allow for maximum skirt and trailer pulsation and provide added lift to the bait on the slowest retrieve. Long arm baits are typically used to cause a surface wake (ie. waking a spinnerbait) when run near the surface or buzzing when the blades chops the surface into a bubbly, noisey trail. For bass, the target hit is usually the skirt and/or trailer; for northern pike, musky and pickerel, the entire bait may be engulfed.

Stinger (trailer hook) option:

Adding a single or treble hook (a stinger hook) to the main hook is also a personal preference and may ensure a better hook up as well preventing fish that jump from throwing the bait. Some anglers prefer the single hook to be rigged so that the point is down, others prefer it rigged up, but in either case the hook must be prevented from coming off the main hook or grabbing weeds. To accomplish this, there are a few choices. The first is to use rubber tubing cut to 1/8", inserting the eye of the trailer hook and forcing the main hook through the rubber covered eye. The trailer hook is now fixed stationary behind the main hook. The other way allow the hook more side to side motion and consist for stops above and below the eye placed on the main hook. These stops can be 1/8" cut rubber tubing or plastic circles cut from the plastic lid of a coffee can and placed above and below the hook eye encircling the main hook.

TIPS FOR JIGGING

These are great techniques if the walleye are spread out but what if the fish are tightly grouped on a point or small rock pile?

Then you have to think about a jig.

I know the rule is that you use a jig and minnow in the spring and switch to crankbaits and spinners in the summer and fall, but that's not the way a versatile angler thinks. A versatile angler makes a decision regarding technique after they discover what position the fish are in.

And if there wasn't some credibility to deep jigging then there wouldn't be any reason to make those quarter and three-eighths ounce jigs now would there?

So, let's go do some jigging in August, when the walleye are deep and everyone else is trolling all over the place.

You notice a few nice "marks" on the sonar screen. This is a good word, "marks" because it sounds like you are the hit-man and those walleye are your victim; doesn't it?

You tie on a three-eighths ounce Stinging Foxee because the walleye you see are in 28 feet of water and you want a little more weight to get the jig down. That jig looks so big as you poke a jumbo leech through the sucker with the tip of the hook, but it's not when you consider the size of the forage they're eating right now. That jig looks like an appetizer. Rig the stinger and drop it down to the fish.

You are wondering why I use a stinger? Because deep walleyes have a knack for being able to pull the leech off the jig, but if you have a stinger hiding in the tail of the leech you will catch that fish.

Most stingers don't work well with a leech, but the Stinging Foxee stinger was designed by me to work with minnows, leeches, and crawlers so you won't be disappointed, especially when you're hauling in a big walleye.

If the fish are two feet off the bottom, let's say, drop the jig all the way to the bottom and bring it up two feet. You want to pop, wiggle, and quiver that jig right in front of those fish.

The bite can be subtle. All you feel is a slight bit of resistance. You don't need to try to rip the fish's lips off. Just snap the rod tip straight up until you feel the weight of the fish.

This next jigging technique works real well this time of year for big walleye. You need to use a half-ounce Fire-ball jig with the standup head and a big shiner or sucker minnow, something in the five to six-inch range.

Push the hook into the fish's mouth and bring it out behind his head. You do that to keep the minnow alive, which means you get some action even when the jig is resting on the bottom. What you want the bait to look like is a minnow feeding on the bottom. The walleye will swim up behind the bait and inhale it. You may not even know you have the fish until you go to lift the jig off the bottom and move it.

The one drawback to this kind of jigging right now on the reservoir is that the pike are everywhere and they love the jig and big minnow combination. You get bit off occasionally, but your chances for a bigger than average walleye are great with this technique.

One of the new products I've incorporated into my jigging routine is the new Fireline. At first I didn't like it for jigging, but Barry Day at Berkley told me to keep working with it and now I wouldn't use any other line when I have a jig on the end.

Why? Because the sensitivity is so fine that you can almost tell when the walleye is breathing on the bait. You know when the fish has gripped the bait in its mouth because you can feel it.

You need to use a rod with a lighter tip. Instead of the line stretching and providing the forgiveness, the rod does.

You really get good hook sets with Fireline too. It's that no-stretch property again. You really bury the hook with just a snap.

You might look a little strange jigging around all those trollers, but hey, who cares when you're catching fish?

The Squid Season

Like the squid season of Terengganu on the east coast of the peninsula when the seas squid in scoop (sauk) would light up with the lights from hundreds of fishermen doing their squid fishing along the coast, Langkawi has its time, too.

About the end of each year between late November and February, a similar activity goes full swing in Langkawi, especially along its western coastline. However, unlike their counterparts in the east coast who use hook and line (jigging), the Langkawi squid fishing method is by using scooping nets - a method which was kept a trade secret until quite recently. So popular is this seasonal activity that it has taken a festival-like air each time as the Langkawi Squid Challenge makes this traditional fishing pursuit a fun proposition.

According to the fishermen, squid scooping is best done during a calm, dark and moonless night. Rough seas can result in strong currents that will keep the squids from surfacing. Hurricane lamps or even battery-operated fluorescent lamps are used to draw the squids to the surface. On a good night the lights can attract more than 100kg of squids within a short span of time.

Upon reaching a suitable spot, the task begins by landing the initial catch. The first squid caught will then be used as a decoy to attract the others from deep below the surface to the lights. You can try your hands at squid scooping by taking out a package from one of the many tour operators in Langkawi.

This is my first trip at raft Pak Akop. This raft can only fit 5 to 6 person. If you all want to go fishing in this raft, it only cost RM12 a person. Saltwater Fishing with a Jig

Somewhere along the way one of the most versatile fishing lures ever devised received the name "jig". Probably either because the molds they are made from or the mechanism used to hold them while they are being tied, are called jigs. Either way the term has come to mean a particular style of fishing with a particular type of lure - fishing with a jig.

Types of Jigs

Bucktail jigs, nylon jigs, mylar jigs, feathered jigs - they come in all sizes and shapes, and each is designed to imitate a baitfish of some sort. And for fish catching ability, these lures, cast for cast, out fish all other lures. If I had to choose only one lure to fish with, it would be a bucktail jig.

Depth

Jigs work in any depth of water, but generally, the deeper you fish, the heavier the jig.

In water up to 180 feet deep it takes a good 8 ounces of weight to reach the bottom if there is any current at all. These means a jig with a 7/0 or 8/0 hook, and the probability of BIG fish.

Deep Jigging

Any time the water is deeper than 100 feet, the jig fishing I do is called deep jigging. It requires some stamina and a strong back, because it takes a lot of upward motion from your rod to move the jig effectively on the bottom. This is not a place for subtle twitches and jig movements. In water this deep, the line stretch factor removes any possibility for subtleness. What we are looking for here are fast upwards jerks of the rod to get the lure to move up and down in some type of pattern.

Bait Strips

I like to use a strip bait on a deep jig - usually a mullet filet cut thin, pointed on the hook end with a split tail at the end. Too much meat left on the strip restricts the movement of the strip and presents an unnatural looking bait. If we are lucky, we will have caught some small bonito or false albacore, the belly meat of which we always keep. The skin on these bellies is thin and white with a silvery or pearly sheen. This is in sharp contrast to the dark red meat attached to the skin and this contrast works extremely well. Again, the meat side is trimmed very thin to allow that important flexibility.

Light Tackle Popping

Poppers are a fun way of catching both bass and bluefish. Everyone likes to see a fish come to the top and smash a surface popper to oblivion. It's heart stopping and it gets your adrenaline pumping.

When most people fish poppers for stripers, they fish them too fast. Having the lure moving slowly and popping will result in a lot more hits than racing it across the top of the water. The faster you move the plug the more bluefish you will attract and the few stripers you will catch.

Some poppers are built to sink, some are built to float and still others will even swim on the surface when reeled in very slowly between pops and splashes. Using or choosing the right one for certain conditions plays a big role in just how many fish you will catch.

Poppers that sink are normally heavier than others of the same type, and thus cast a lot farther than ones of similar size and shape. I like these for beach fishing where distance is sometimes very important. On beaches where there are outer bars, rock piles or rips, it's often necessary to be able to make a very long cast to reach where the fish are.

Sinking poppers normally requires a rod that is a bit stiffer and longer to get it up on the surface and keep it there so it works properly.

Floating poppers are good in a variety of situations and conditions. In areas where there are lots of rocks and little water depth, such as at the bottom have tide. Floating poppers will come over them and through them better with much less chance of hanging up.

When the wind is calm or there is just a slight ripple on the water surface, floating poppers can bring some explosive strikes. Fish these conditions early in the morning before the sun comes up or late in the evening as it goes down. Being able to keep the lure on the surface and in front of the fish's face helps immensely when trying to lure him to the surface.

With technology being what it is today, poppers now come with rattles built-in to add sound besides the pops, splashes and gurgles. There are numerous times that rattles can and will make all the difference in the world.

When tying on a popper use a good quality snap swivel like a Duo-Lok, which allows the lure to move as it was designed to do. Attaching a split ring to the front eye will also help in making it work better.

Loop knots are also good to use when fishing poppers. Fly fishermen use loop knots all the time. They are easy to tie and have very good holding strength on almost any mono leader when tied properly. A good knot book will illustrate how to tie one properly. It's'not at all hard to do.

When fishing for bluefish, remove all the trebles and use one single Siwash Salmon hook on the tail end. Since most blues will attack from the rear first, the big salmon hook usually gets them. It's a lot easier to deal with a blue with one hook than it is with two or three sets of trebles. It's also a lot less painful; having been stuck a few times myself. When you take off thousands of fish in the coarse of a season you raise the odds tremendously of getting stuck sooner or later. I also crush the barbs so if you do get stuck it comes out easier than it went in.

If you learn to play and fight the fish properly, you won't loose any more fish than ones with barbs won't. In fact, you wind up hooking more since it penetrates much more easily in a boney jaw. Just make sure you keep your hook razor sharp.

For stripers, I'll put a single salmon hook in the front in place of the treble. Most bass will take the plug headfirst so you need a sharp hook up front. You can dress the tail hook with feathers, bucktail or whatever you like for stripers, but I leave the hook bare most times for bluefish. If you do dress the tail hook for blues, use something synthetic like Ultra hair. It will last longer and be sure to dress it sparsely.

Practice Catch & Release

Some fish are far too valuable to be caught only once.
Many angler's now take only what they need for food and release the rest of their catch unharmed.

This is called "catch and release" and it helps to keep enough fish in the rivers and lakes for everyone to fish for.

Here are several tips
for practicing a successful
catch and release.

1. After landing the fish, try to keep it in the water as much as possible.

Try to avoid removing the fish from the water.

Do not let fish flop about in shallow water, on the ground, or in the bottom of your boat.

2. Use wet hands or wet cloth gloves to handle the fish.

Fish have a slime coating, which seals out infection.
Rough handling can destroy this protection.

Keep your fingers out of and away from the gills and eyes.

Never squeeze the fish.

Fish can not remain healthy out of water for longer than you can hold your breath.
Picture running a 4-minute mile, then someone sticks your head under water and tells you hold your breath.
This is what a fish goes through after a fight at the end of a line.

3. Remove the hook from the fish's mouth. If the hook is deep in the throat and cannot be removed easily, cut the line. The hook will usually dissolve or fall out later.

4. Have your partner take a picture of you and your catch.

QUICK SHOTS
Make sure the camera is ready and film is loaded before boating the fish. Nothing puts more stress on a fish than “sunbathing” on the deck, waiting for a slow poke to ready a camera. When the camera is ready, then lift the fish from the water and snap the shots you need and release the fish immediately.

5. Release the fish back into the water -

never throw it.

Once a fish has been landed, quickly turn the fish upside down and more times than not the fish will immediately become disoriented and cease struggling. Removing the hook becomes a great deal easier and the fish is left in much better condition for the release to follow.

Point your catch into a slow current, or gently move it back and forth until its gills are working properly and it maintains its balance. When the fish recovers and attempts to swim away, let it swim from your hands.

Large fish may take some time to revive.

Watch your fish swim away.

It is a great feeling and you know others will have the opportunity to catch and have as much fun as you did!

It should never be used for light lines, and there are better knots for use with heavy ones.

3. Carry the end of the line on to make a Simple Overhand Knot upon the loop.

4. Pass the loop over the hook.

5. Draw up into shape.

600 F Pursuit

The 600 F is the most radical departure from Signature's 'normal' range of middle-ground, high performance trailer boats that has emerged from the big Wacol factory in years.
True, the Hines family are not strangers to fishing boat design and construction in a historic sense. However, in the context of this latest generation of top-selling Signature models, true fishing boats have had to take a back seat.
First off, the family had to re-build their vastly up-dated range of boats (now stretching from the 15'6" 1550 F through to the 28' 850 Series) before they could branch out and develop specialist models.
For those fishes chomping at the bit to get the renown performance and ride of a variable dead rise Signature under a decent fishing platform, the wait has been worthwhile.
In the 600 F, we have one of the most sophisticated mono-hulls yet developed in Australia, based on the marvelous 600 LE hull, but in fact very different from the waterline up.
Nowhere is this more obvious than around the transom, where the production team, headed up nowadays by second generation boat builder John Hines (Jnr) working under the watchful ? and highly critical ? eye of John Hines (Snr), has changed the original transom outboard well into a far more practical arrangement for fishermen.
And that is only the beginning. The deck and cabin mold is radically different, the design being based around a 'shooting list' of features the factory wished to include. The list was the result of much research and collaboration with dealers, boating writers and Signature owners, not leas of whom were Spring wood Marnie's Tommy Wylde, and TBF's Jeff Webster. Although these two men were coming from completely different directions, for different reasons, the end result of their deliberations was remarkably similar Spring wood Marine is one of the biggest Signature dealers in Australia (the biggest is JV Marine in Melbourne) and Tom Wylde a close friend of the Hines family. For a long time now, Tom and his son Hayden have felt there was a need for a fiberglass alternative to the Quintrex models their dealership sells by the truckload. But it had to be a real fishing boat?
Jeff Webster, on the other hand, was frustrated by the knowledge that the signature hulls were exactly what the fishermen needed ? soft riding through chop, superb handling craft through any slalom test ? but without exception, all were designed for the middie-ot-the-road family
Yes. they could/can be made-over with after market mods, but in most cases, some of the fundamental shapes and transoms just don't do it for the keen trailerboat fisherman. But the ride quality of a Signature in rough or choppy water just blows tinnies of a similar length clean out of the water . . . what to do ?
Finally, late last year, came the break-through Jeff had been waiting for. Greg Haines rang from Brisbane and asked him to prepare a list of ali the features Jeff reckoned they should have in a 6 m fishing boat.
It is an indication of the factory's determination to build the definitive fishing boat, that they achieved 18 out of the 20 suggestions Jeff recommended for the new 600 F ? and the two other items are options.
Design
Statistically, the 600 F has an overall length of 5.94 m (19'6"), with a maximum beam (forward) of 2.21 m (7'3") and a wateriine beam of 1.99 m (6'6") at the transom.
It is a variable deadrise hull, working from an amazing 34 degrees in the forefoot, turns back to some 22.5 degrees at the transom ? no wonder it rides so well in choppy water! But if you want to see how or why a Signature works as well as it does, you'll need to get down on your hands and knees and study the planing strakes very carefully; this is where the action happens, folks, and the shapes, placement, angles and size of the strakes, relative to the size, shape and displacement of the hull, are all part of the John Haines' Signature hull magic.
On a trailer, the complete test rig tipped the scales at 1 68 tonnes ? that's complete with the 135 Merc, tandem axle trailer, basic safety gear and all the standard fit-out for the 600 R and 25 per cent fuel. The alloy fuel tank accepts 165 L (36 gal), so chocker with fuel, the rig will weigh pretty dose to 1.70-1.75 tonnes with fishing gear and persona! effects.
it's a pretty big six metre, especially the way the cabin 'shed' has been truncated to form a large cuddy cabin underneath.
Inside, the cuddy easily seats 3-4 adults out of the weather, with headroom of 101 cm (40"), sleeps two in 1.87 m (6'2") berths, and has a walk-through arrangement to the forward hatch and anchor well, that's plenty big enough for the 16 stone and above fishing fraternity.
The big, draining anchor locker is outboard of the hatch, and in a
perfect position for the crew to pick up the anchor and lower over the side. Reaching out to the forward bow roller is a real stretch though, especially if you want to open or close the pin.
The cabin structure is quite high, and provides an excellent base for the helmsman's seat, instruments, engine controls, and the 5 piece lexan windshield. The windshield is well placed too, being 1.6 m (5'3") off the deck, ideal for most owners who like to stand and see over the 'screen, or sit and be protected. Notice too, the superbly built stainless steel rod rack-come-targa bar, and the way it is integrated into the design of the bimini and windshield.
This is good stuff - all you do is add a zip-in clear vinyl screen between the top of the windshield and the leading edge of the bimini, and a snug, water tight 'outer cabin' is created. Very nice it is too, on those winter snapper fishing trips, with the boat laying to anchor facing into those chilly winds ? what price then a warm cabin area :
The dash area has been /veil thought out too with sensibly deep spaces being allocated to the depth sounder radio(s) and storage and bits and pieces
The shelves along the topsides under the gunwale cover boards. deserve special mention
On both sides on the boat moulded GRP shelves and ledges have been designed so you can easily add more shelves later or build in customised features such as a lure cupboard first aid corner tool locker more rod racks, gaff racks, etc.
It?s the first time I?ve seen such a feature in a GRP boat Keen fishos will be rapt - flexibility like this is normally the province of the plate alloy brigade
Other excellent cockpit features include:
- Above floor battery box
- Standard moulded fish box and ? - storage lockers
- Standard live bait tank
- Standard nylon cutting boards
- Removable transom corner seats
- Built in, draining icebox
- Built m tackle cupboard
- Four stainless rod holders
- Ideal 83.5 cm (33") internal freeboard amidships, 74.5 cm (29.5") next to the transom
- Side lockers you can put your toes under and stand against the gunwales.
- Foot boxes for tools and spares
- Swiveling, adjustable track molded seats
- Molded topside rod racks on each side
- Optional lift-out bait prep tray.
Performance
With a 135 Mercury on the transom, the 600 F didn't lack anything in the performance department. had done an excellent job with fitup including one of the new Hi- Five stainless steel, five-bladed props, resulting in superb top end performance and surprisingly good out the hole acceleration. I say surprisingly, only because some of these hight performance props are brilliant at the top end of the performance envelope, and leave a lot to be desired al the bottom. I am not sure thus is a prop I'd choose for continual offshore use but on the other hand, for boating people intent on a mixture of everything, it is very hard to argue with the statistics we obtained.
It is also hard to see the need for greater horsepower, unless a fishing crew involved three or four big men. The economic advantage of staying with the 120-135 engine size is clear.
The 600 F is rated for a maximum 150 hp outboard in any event, and that would cater for any situation.
(Note: The full performance trials were curtailed in Queensland due to bad weather. Instead, we've utilised the fuel figures we obtained with an identical Mercury 135 fitted to a Sea Ray Laguna. We then produced a compilation of the data; it will be accurate to within (say) 5 per cent on the fuel and range figures, in the Signature's favour i.e they will be a fraction better).
As you can see, the Signature 600 F has a maximum range of approximately 170 miles at a mid range 3,000 r/min. and around 125 nm in the 20 knot range. Some readers in FNQ, or the SA gulfs, or WA's mid north coast might have to think about installing additional fuel tanks for long range cruising or fishing situations.
It is easy enough to do -- the 'trench' in the middle of the cockpit can be extended in either direction. However, the factory has chosen 165 L (36 gallons) as a good compromise between weighing the boat down with too much fuel for most situations, against having a decent sort of range in the majority of cases.
Handling
The Signature 600 F handles superbly. This isn't exactly news, as the 600 LE has long been regarded as a bench mark in monohulls in Australia, and if anything, because this is a bit heavier, it is just that little bit softer in the ride.
The boat feels terrific to drive. The helm position is really nice, with an almost ideal relationship between bimini, windscreen, helm and driver's chair.
The passenger side is OK too, but I didn't spend a lot of time in that chair, preferring to elbow my way into the driver's corner!
Curiously, we had a big Quintrex 535 Centre Console on test on the same day as the 600 F, and without being overly harsh on the new Quintrex 535, it was fascinating to jump from one of the best alloy boats in Australia into the 600 F ? the difference is incredible.
It is not so much that the Quinnie is hard riding, as it highlighted how astonishingly soft the 600 F is in choppy water. This hull is absolutely magic, of that there is no doubt. It is unusual, too, because it needs to be driven fast ? in typical Moreton Bay or Broadwater chop, the faster you go the softer the ride, as the boat gets up on its incredibly deep vee forward (34 degrees), literally slicing through the water. Then, as the water passes away around the sides of the boat the strakes are designed in such a way that they turn the water back down under the hull, creating a sort of kinetic force that uses the energy the boat is creating, to cushion the ride through the chop.
Offshore, this only works for as long as you can stand it ? in other words, as the waves get bigger and bigger, obviously the faster the boat is going, the more likely it is to leap clear off the waves. This forces the skipper to use his brain, back off the throttle and find the speed that the boat will work to its maximum efficiency. Here, John Haines' hull formula is negated to some extent because at sub-planing speeds it has to work pretty much the same as most other deep-vees. Even so, this variable deadrise business pays off; with the very deep forefoot warping aft to a flatter section (22.5 degrees) means that it is still softer than most monos, even in sub-planing speeds.
Stability at trolling speeds is OK ? but at anchor it is still a bit wobbly compared to some. But you just can't have it both ways ? you either have .
the stability on the pick and a bumpy ride home, or alternatively, you have an incredibly soft ride home with a bitmore rock 'n roll on the pick.
Inshore, the 600 F is first rate ? and virtually impossible to fault.
Application
Fishing, fishing and more fishing . . . that is what the 600 F is designed to do. It has been designed for the blue water fishermen, with a definite leaning towards offshore sportfishing as distinct from bottom fishing. That is not to say that it can't be adapted for bottom fishing, but in that case, you would be looking at installing a big central fish box in the cockpit.
"Not a problem," says Tommy Wyld, "just tell me how big you need the box, how much insulation, and whether or not you want a padded cushion on the top ? we'll do it!"
It was interesting for me coming back into the top-of-the -line mono land, after so many hours in TBF's Hook'em 6.0 m at various tournaments in recent weeks. In truth, it is a little shattering, because it reminds you just how much the gap has been closed Between the ride of good monohulls and the best of the twin or tri hills in recent years.
Twin hulls used to have it all over: that is simply no longer 600 F shows why. In most situations, this Pursuit 600 F is as soft riding and as dynamically stable as a cat ? and when the boat is brought around, head into the wind, a mono (as good as this) will easily go past most 'cats. Downhill, nothing is quite as good yet, but . . . but if you need anything much better than the 600F downhill, you'll need to be one hell of a skipper to keep up.
The final choice. I suspect, will come down to whether the purchaser wants:
1 A boat with two engines, and a big self-draining cockpit at the expense of accommodation, or
2. A boat with one engine, nearly half the price, and a couple of big bilge pumps in lieu of the self-draining cockpit. . .
You don't have to be a genius to work out which way most people are going to go!
Conclusion
The Haines' family have kicked a big goal with this boat. It represents a major change in strategy for them, and they deserve all the credit and success this boat so richly deserves.
It is for them a dramatic departure from their traditional turf ? and they have achieved it with great professionalism and great skill.
In the last 12 months, the Savage Mako has taken the retail sector by storm. I suspect the 600 F is going to impact with the same influence in the 6 m area.
In coming months, the Haines people have confirmed they will be developing a stern drive model, a hard top, and a toughened glass windscreen with wiper capability. And - yes, for purists like the writer, a self draining cockpit is going to be made available as an optional extra.

Soft Plastic Lure

Any lure made of a soft, rubbery material is classified in the soft plastic range these days. The life like action of soft plastics, combined with versatility in rigging and price, makes them extremely popular. Soft plastics do actually work, especially if the user takes the time to understand the rigging, presentation and tactics in use.As simple as this rig looks, it's critical to get it exactly right. Scrunched, bent or twisted tails don't swim properly, often spin in the water, causing line twist, and will deter fish from biting.
This is the most basic of all rigs for soft plastics, and also arguably the best.
Begin by laying the jig/hook alongside the soft plastic, with the nose of the soft plastic held level with the back of the jig head. Note exactly where the bight of the jigs hook comes to on the back (top) of the soft plastics tail. This will be the exit spot for the hook point to exit.
Push the point of the jig hook into the front of the soft plastic lure, in the centre of its head or nose. Thread the soft plastic lure onto and around the hook bend so that the point of the hook exits the back of the plastic exactly on the centre line and at that point you noted earlier. Snug the nose of the plastic up against the back of the jig head and glue if preferred.
If your lure looks neat on the hook and the point comes out dead on the centre line of the plastic's back, you probably have it right. If it looks in any way dodgy, slightly crooked, bent, skewed or bunched up, do it again!
Drop the lure in the water and check its action. Pulling it along for a metre checking its action is strongly advisable. If the plastic swims straight on the test run, the tail wobbles or kicks enticingly, and the lure looks like something that might actually be alive, then you've rigged it properly.
With all flick or stick bait style of soft lure, the rigging method is exactly the same, but you need to actually cast the lure a couple of metres and work it back with a few pauses and flicks from the rod tip checking it kicks and flashes and jinks and darts—looking like a wounded, dying bait fish.

DRIFT FISHING

Definition: Surface-midwater fishing from a stationary boat.

It is necessary to attract fish to the stationary boat and chum is often used. Because of the risk of shark and large fish attack, medium (30-50lb) to heavy (80-130lb) tackle is recommended.

Technique:

If using live fish, attach hook to dorsal fish. Attach balloon or bottle 10 -20 m from bait depending on depth of bait required. The use of a wire swivel and some light weights can be used to attain the appropriated depth. The float is then released 50 m from the boat. The balloon serves 2 purposes:

1. The balloon is larger than the standard float which will be necessary to be visible at 50-100 m from the boat

2. When the balloon escapes the line, this serves as warning that the fish has taken the bait.

TROLLING

Definition - dragging bait / lures behind a moving boat.

Trolling is done at the surface (mostly), mid water and floor depending on the type of fish attempted.

Specifics:

The larger and faster the fish, the all above categories will increase. That is, heavier tackle, line, hooks, leaders, increased trolling speed and distance.

Although there is no 1 standard to catch all fish, in the medium category, I suggest:

1. 30 lb quality mono filament, 600 meter

2. Bait caster reel

3. 15 kg class rod – with rollers

4. 5 meters of 80 lb mono filament leader

5. 20 cm of 100 lb steel wire

6. Rapala magnum CD 14 lures (orange or red-white)

7. Trolling distance 50 meters

SURF CASTING

Definition: Fishing from the shore.

Two types:

1. Using leaders, bait and sinkers, similar to bottom fishing (It is convenient to use an Apollo hook configuration)
2. Fishing with artificial lures

Although it is said that many large fish come within 6 metres from the shore to feed on the marine creatures brought up from the sand due to the action of the waves, Singapore waters have qualities that requires special consideration

Many of our shores are over-fished, frequently disturbed and polluted. It may be necessary to cast further out. Light and long rods (9-16 feet) with lines of 0.20 and above are recommended. Light rods are especially important when using artificial lures, for easy cast and return. Light line must be balanced with large spool capacity of at least 200 m. A good cast can achieve 100-200 m of distance on spinning and multiplier reels but requires a fair bit of skill.

Many good fishing areas still remain, but are usually difficult to access or restricted. 3-5 kg snakeheads (off Tuas caught with live catfish hooked to a 12 metre nylon rope and thrown into the water), good size groupers, 5-15 kg stingrays, barracuda, tengerri have been brought up.

Bait

The type of bait really depends on the type of fish in the locality and what they are known to feed on. Generally for sea fishing, marine organisms make the best bait e.g., fish, prawns, squid, crab etc.

In the Singapore & Malaysian waters, live prawns and fish (live or fillet) are the best all-rounder baits. Around the northeastern coastal waters of Singapore, ie Pongol, Changi and Ubin, live prawns prove useful for day fishing. For night fishing, kelong-caught squid and live mullet (Ohr Haer/Belanak) of 10-15 cm, selar and tamban are recommended.

Live fish can be caught by net of jigging. Fresh squid is expensive and can be bought from kelongs and Kangar wholesale market at dawn.

Other bait include crabs, which are favorites with groupers and parrot fish – flower crabs quartered with the claws removed or those small brownish crabs along the rocky breakwater, used whole with the claws removed again.

Wolf herring (Ikan Parang), Ikan Tonggol (Bonito) and Queenfish are other good fish bait.

When using fillet or strips of squid or fish, cut it into long strips. Movement of these strips in the water / current mimics live bait. For live fish, attach the hook on the lip or close to the dorsal fin, which prevents them from dying and enable them to continue swimming. As many predatory fish snap up whole fish from the back on center of the bait, hooking near the dorsal fin (centre of the fish) is a better choice.

PICKING THE RIGHT COLOR

Consider the conditions around you. Clear water or cloudy water? Calm Surface or broken surface? Is the sun high or low? Is the sky clear or overcast? How deep does the Rapala you're using run? Now that you have the immediate conditions, here are the guidelines to immediate selections:

CLEAR On clear days or in clear water, the silver (S) Rapala is recommended.

CLEAR, DEEP When fishing deep in clear conditions, the silver/blue (SB) Rapala is recommended. Blue maintains its color deeper.

DARK On dark days or in dark water, the gold (G) Rapala is the best.

TURBID In muddy or low visibility water, use a gold/fluorescent red (GFR) Rapala. Also very effective when fishing in the spawning cycle or territorial.

DARK,DEEP In extremely poor lighting or very deep water, the silver/fluorescent chartreuse (SFC) and Firetiger(F) works best.

THE STIMULATOR COLORS
These are the colors that were created to simulate specific forage species.

RAINBOW TROUT (RT) Especially effective wherever there are salmon, trout or chubs present.

PERCH (P) An excellent silhouette lure wherever poor light and clarity conditions exist. Surprisingly good on dark days.

FIRETIGER (FT) Bright finish is the perfect attractant when fishing dark water.

CRAWDAD (CW) For use wherever crayfish are present or as a silhouette diving lure on dark days.

SHAD (SD) The most universal forage color for use in clear conditions.

MACKEREL (GM) Green for dark conditions, blue for clear.

REDHEAD (RH) The wildcard lure color. Creates aggression. Teases strikes.

Be sure to check the locals for colors that work in their area. You may find rainbow trout colors catching fish where there are no rainbow trout or dark water Rapalas catching fish at high noon on a clear day.

Ok hari ini aku akan cerita kat kau org tentang sebuah tempat yang di beri nama tanjung langsat. Tanjung langsat terbahagi kepada 2 bahagian iaitu pusat perindustrian tanjung langsat yang mana terdapat sebuah pelabuhan dan kampung tanjung langsat yang mana ia adalah sebuah perkampungan nelayan.

MEMANCING DI PELABUHAN TANJUNG LANGSAT

Di sini anda boleh memancing di sebuah pantai bersebelahan pelabuhan tanjung langsat.Pantai ini diberi nama pantai pasir layar, pantai ini tidak la besar tetapi ia merupakan sebuah tempat riadah bersama keluarga. Jadi bagi kaki2 pancing yang ingin memancing bersama keluarga boleh la datang ke sini. Pelabuhan tanjung langsat yang sepanjang 1.5 km ke tengah laut ini juga satu tempat yang menarik utk memancing. Tetapi sayangnya ia tidak dibuka utk aktiviti memancing. Hanya pada malam minggu sahaja kadangkala dianjurkan petandingan memancing di sini, dan pada 8/12/2007 ini akan diadakan pertandingan memancing penutup bagi tahun 2007. yuran yang dikenakan adalah sebanyak RM90 utk sebatang joran dan hadiah utamanya adalah sebesar RM11000.
